  32. Congratulations for choosing MIDI Machine as your MS-Windows(c) MIDI
  33. player!  Midi Machine is the latest of Excel Progs line of excellent
  34. products for the IBM(c)/clone computers, and like all EP products, it
  35. is backed by full support.
  36.  
  37. Midi Machine allows you to play the .MID (MIDI) files that are seen
  38. all throughout the world.  Midi Machine also allows you to play the
  39. standard .WAV (WAVEAUDIO) files. MIDIs cover all genres of music,
  40. including:

  42. o       Jazz/Blues
  43. o       Rock/Pop
  44. o       Soft Rock/Easy Listening
  45. o       Classical
  46.  
  47. and many more styles of music are represented by this music file
  48. format.  
  49.  
  50. WAVs cover all types of sounds, including:
  51.  
  52. o       Instruments
  53. o       Music Clips
  54. o       Voice-Mail
  55. o       System Events
  56.  
  57. and many more types of sound files are represented by this audio
  58. file format.

  60. III.   What you Need
  61.  
  62. In order to play music with Midi Machine, you must have:
  63.  
  64. o       MS-Windows 3.1 or higher
  65. o       A Midi-compatible sound card (SB, SBPro, GUS,..etc)
  66. o       Installed MIDI drivers for Windows
  67. o       VBRUN300.DLL (found at many fine BBS's and distribution networks)
  68.  
  69. If you wish to only play WAV files, the midi drivers and midi-
  70. compliant sound card are not needed.  You will, however, need WAV
  71. support and drivers.
  72.  
  73. IV.    Running MIDI Machine
  74.  
  75. In order to run Midi Machine, you need to copy, unpack,..etc the files
  76. you received.  Next, copy the MCI.VBX and ANIBUTON.VBX files to your main 
  77. Windows directory.  Get VBRUN300.DLL from your distribution site (or The
  78. Other World BBS), and place it to your Windows directory.  Add the Midi
  79. Machine icon to your program manager or equivalent (or just run it
  80. straight using your pm's run command).

  82. Midi Machine will execute and bring you up to the main status window.
  83. This window is divided into several parts:
  84.  
  85. o       Drive selection window
  86.  
  87.     This will allow you to choose which drive Midi Machine will
  88.     pull the Sound files from.
  89.  
  90. o       Directory selction window
  91.  
  92.     This will allow you to choose which directory Midi Machine
  93.     will pull the Sound files from.
  94.  
  95. o       File selection window
  96.  
  97.     This will allow you to choose the individual Sounds that you
  98.     wish to add to your playing queue (see below).
  99.  
  100. o       Sound Playing queue
  101.  
  102.     This will be a list of Sounds that you have selected to play,
  103.     in order of selection (note that the order the Sound files are
  104.     selected are NOT exactly the order in which that they will be
  105.     played!  See below for more options).

  107. o       Buttons
  108.  
  109.     Buttons are the method by which you can tell MIDI machine
  110.     what to do.  These buttons are as follows:
  111.  
  112.     (R)ename
  113.  
  114.     Allows you to rename or move a sound.
  115.  
  116.     (D)elete
  117.  
  118.     Allows you to delete a sound.
  119.  
  120.     (I)nfo
  121.  
  122.     Allows you to get information on a sound.  Note that this can
  123.     be done ONLY when you are not playing any music.

  127.     Allows you to add a sound file from the file selection window
  128.     to your Sound playing queue.

  182.     These check boxes allow you to change the order in which
  183.     Sounds are being played.  Simply click on the boxes to
  184.     change the playing direction.

  188.     Plays the sound files randomly.

  192.     Plays the sound files backwards.

  196.     Plays the sounds continuously.  This button is only visible
  197.     when you are in selecting, not playback, mode.

  201. This is a beta version of the upcoming full release of MIDI Machine.
  202. All possible time has been spent removing errors from this program.
  203. I hate receiving Windows programs that constantly crash, and I'm sure
  204. you do also.
  205.  
  206. Under normal usage, the program has been known to work very well.  Very
  207. infrequently (and under non-normal usage, as the main beta-tester can
  208. attest) the program has hung on a WAV.  If this does occur, pressing
  209. the "Next" button should continue the program on its way.
  210.

  220. Registration is $15.00, which will give you the first full release of
  221. Midi Machine with your name on the title bar (nothing profane, please!)
